Choco Latte Rice

What do you do with your leftover rice? Do you give it to your pets? Do you throw them away? Never!
Before the leftover rice start to collect molds and get spoiled, do something about it to make it appetizing.
There are actually many ways to give your leftover rice a new taste. You can make garlic fried rice, mushroom rice, curry rice and a lot more. Now, I have made a ‘champorado” with a twist and called it choco-latte rice because it has chocolate, milk and coffee in it. The rice is soft and it’s a bit mushy yet yummy. It is a perfect food for breakfast and snack. Try it.
CHOCO-LATTE RICE Ingredients: 1 cup leftover rice ¼ cup sugar (2 pieces calamay) 1 sachet 3 n 1 coffee 1 tbsp. creamer 2 tbsp. chocolate powder (or tablea) ½ cup milk 3 cups water Directions: Put the water and leftover rice in a casserole. Let it boil for 2 minutes and keep until the rice become softer. Put sugar and continue boiling for another minute. Add coffee, milk and chocolate powder. Serve hot.

Use Softdrink Bottles as Plant Pots

Everything is getting expensive nowadays that sometimes we forego of the foods we are dying to eat and worse, let go of the food that our body needs to keep it healthy. We even spare ourselves from buying nutritious foods for our meals. Often it’s the vegetables that do not end up in the shopping basket or grocery bag. If the reason why you don’t plant vegetables- even if in your heart you love to plant – is because you don’t have enough land space or area to plant, then the solution there is to plant it pots. If, still, you find it expensive to buy plastic pots, why not instead use empty plastic softdrinks bottles. Do not dispose of those empty sofdrink bottles for they are good pot substitute. It’s more durable since this kind of plastic does not immediately wear out. How can we make pots using empty plastic softdrinks bottles? So simple. Just cut the side of the bottle (with a rectangular shape) and punch small holes on the other side of the bottle. Then fill it up with soil and alas, you can start putting your seeds.

Making My Slippers New

Before After
Recycling old stuff is something which I have discovered, lately, to be fun. The pair of worn slippers shown above was the my first project which was follwed by several others which I will be posting here too in my succeeding posts. I gave this pair of slippers a new look by changing the fabric cover on it with a new one. Doing it was fun and very simple. In fact, it gave me a new idea of one day making my own pairs of more beautiful slippers.

KEEPING THE TOMATOES FRESH IN THE REFRIGERATOR

This is just a continuation of my previous post about keeping vegetables fresh inside the refrigerator. . . . . COLD TEMPERATURE DESTROYS TOMATO FLAVOR AND TEXTURE It’s true that the texture as well as the flavor of tomatoes when put inside the refrigerator is not as good as those which are left in open air. The refrigerator’s cold temperature destroys the smoothness of the skin of the tomato and its flavor is likewise affected by its unnatural coldness. It is often suggested by experts that tomatoes should be put out of the refrigerator to maintain its freshness. But I beg to disagree. It is not always practical to leave tomatoes in open air because of our weather – we live in a tropical country. The hot weather contributes the fast ripening of the tomatoes. There is one way to make the tomatoes fresh even if it is put inside the refrigerator and it has worked pretty well for me. Everytime I buy a kilo, or half, of tomatoes, I make sure that I fifty percent of which are green ones and the rest are a combination of greenish yellow, yellow and red. In other words, I don’t get all the ripe or unripe ones. WAYS TO KEEP TOMATOES FRESH Here’s how to make the tomatoes stay fresh even for two weeks: o Before keep the tomatoes inside the refrigerator, wash them and let it dry (remember not to wipe them with towel for doing so will affect the luster of the skin) o Separate the green ones from the red ones. Consume the red or ripe ones first. o Wrap separately the green and red tomatoes with a newspaper. o Store them in the bottom portion of the refrigerator, never in the freezer.

Keeping Vegetables Fresh

Did you know that newspaper can help keep the vegetables fresh. Simply wrap the vegetables with a newspaper before storing it in the refrigerator to keep it fresh for even for a week. I have tried it several times and it really works. You try it.

I received this e-mail from baby center : I found it useful especially now that daughter is having cough and colds which resulted due to the changing weather. Cough and cold season is here. And if you've got kids, you should feel confident knowing how to treat them responsibly. Here's what you need to know. For children age 4 years and over, over-the-counter (OTC) medicines including Children's TYLENOL® Plus cough and cold products are safe and effective when used as directed. Be sure to follow the dosing instructions carefully. Try these other ways to soothe their symptoms too.
  • As simple as it sounds, making sure your child gets plenty of rest is one of the best ways you can help them feel better.
  • Giving them plenty of fluids can help ease congestion, cool a fever, and soothe a scratchy throat.
  • To help with a dry or stuffy nose, use saline nose drops to help loosen things up. Ask your pediatrician which ones to use.
  • Using a cool mist humidifier will keep air moist, which can help clear your child's clogged nasal passages. Just be sure to clean the humidifier often to avoid spreading germs.
If you have children under age 4 years, using OTC cough and cold medicines are no longer recommended, so you should talk to your doctor about other ways to treat your child's cold. Single-ingredient pain relievers and fever reducers such as Infants' and Children's TYLENOL® and Infants' and Children's MOTRIN® are other options you can use to keep your child comfortable. Remember that whenever you have questions about how to treat your child's cough and cold symptoms, you should call your doctor.

Biden vs. Palin

I may not take part in the voting process during the U.S. elections but I am one of the million, if not billions, of people all over the world who never fails to get the updates of the U.S. Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections. The first and only vice presidential debate debate was an interesting one. Sen. Joe Biden and Gov. Sarah Palin traded punches over the U.S. weakening economy and the much controversial Iraq. Biden repeatedly linked Sen. John McCain to President Bush, while Palin painted Sen. Barack Obama as "dangerous" on foreign policy. These and more about this debate in CNN.com.

For no reason, other than boredome I guess, I changed the layout of Practical Housewife. I also changed my site's background courtesy of htpp://thecutestblogontheblock.com. I chose to maintained the predominantly greened page to go with my campaign of being eco-friendly and my advocacy for saving the mother earth.

Read The Expiration Dates

See these two photos?
They are picture-perfect reminder for me to be cautious and concious of reading the the expiration dates before buying and consuming any processed food. The expiration dates of two biscuits - the strawberry and the opened one - were not visible as it was erased. I bought these biscuits from a store which sells local and imported goods on exactly the same date today last year.

The Holy Family

I was on my way to the bank awhile ago when I met two gentlemen selling religious icons. The antique-look of the icons attracted me that I asked how much its price. They answered in unison, "P300.00". I thought to myself that it was cheap. Then I pretented that I was not interested in buying them, although deep inside I wanted to get one, so I just said thank you. but they were persistent of selling it to me that they reduced it's price to P200.00. Still, I did not buy it until they finally offered it for P100.00. I was totally shocked how inexpensive it was. So I bought the religious image of the Holy Family for only P100.00. Another bargain find. . . I'll have the Holy Family blessed on Wednesday.
