The Snake Found

This snake was caught by our neighbors a month ago. They took care of this snake and even befriended it. Neighbors, young and old, love to see this snake being trained by one of the men in our neighborhood. . . I was shocked yesterday when I saw them killing it. According to them, the snake was not eating anymore and was dying. They didn't want it to die, so they just killed it and even cooked it! OMG, that's really bad!

Practical Housewife's Facelift

For no reason, other than boredome I guess, I changed the layout of Practical Housewife. I also changed my site's background courtesy of htpp://thecutestblogontheblock.com. I chose to maintained the predominantly greened page to go with my campaign of being eco-friendly and my advocacy for saving the mother earth.

Emply Glass Bottles On My Table

I had fun rearranging the furnitures of my modest home this morning. The whole re-arrangement thing all started from watching a show over Lifestyle Network ( I'll be posting more about this in my next article).

While I was cleaning the kitchen area, I saw several empty bottles - coffee, medicine and wine - in our cabinet. At first, I thought of disposing of all those bottles. However, when I was about to throw them away, I remember that I could something on it. I chose the four brown-colored bottles and adorned them with eco-friendly materials like raffia leaves, cogon grass and wood flowers. Oh, great!

Trash To Cash

I was supposed to post this article sometime on the last week of July and failed to do so for had some problems posting pictures or images. Anyway, I'm overwhelmed that I can post pictures again.

This advertisement caught my attention. I appreciated the mall's advocacy on helping to clean and save our environment. Kudos to SM Malls.

My desire to clean up my surroundings is not at all putting all my trash to the waste or garbage can. I make it a point to always observe the so-called "waste segregation" technique. Those that are totally to be thrown end up in the garbage can which are collected every Thursday and those that can be brought to the junkshops are place in a separate container. I once mentioned in this blog that I have made money out of the trash which I collected from my our house - its monetary value may be very minimal but it's out of question. Now I have again made money out of my garbage and I have earned bigger this time. Wow, I'm starting to make a piggy bank for all my trash earnings and count it at the end of the year.

Eco-Friendly gown of the President

Today the President of the Republic of the Philippines, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, delivered her 8th State of Nation Address (SONA) at the Batasang Pambansa. I watched the SONA and am writing about the President not because I am much interested in what she said. It was her gown – reddish pink made of Philipppine indigenous materials , silk from Misamis Oriental and pineapple fibers from Aklan - which was designed by the famous fashion designer, JC Buendia, that caught my attention. For the past years, I have appreciated the gowns she wore but it’s her gown now that I like the most especially that it is an eco-friendly gown.

Money from Trash

I am very happy today for I made P15 out of this week’s trash. The money may not be even enough to buy a kilo of rice, but it doesn’t matter to me. What is important is that I made money from selling something which was supposed to be collected by the garbage collector. These were empty milk cans, Coke 1.5L plastic bottles, Jollibee disposable cups, broken clothes hangers, tins cans and some other plastics. Start collecting your trash and earn money from it. Save our mother earth too!

Coin Box from the Milk Box

I was about to throw an empty cartoon milk box when the idea of recycling came across my mind. At first, I thought of making it as a container for my daughter’s hair clips and other hair accessories which she loves to play. It’s quite a sore in my eyes to see those clips cluttered everywhere in the house - my daughter leaves it anywhere. However, I got second thoughts when I saw three small empty bags which used to contain all her hair accessories in one corner of our bedroom and I came to realize later that my daughter prefers to play those hair accessories rather than keep it. So, when I saw the three coin banks of my daughter– she prefer to call it birdhouses –beautifully lined up on top of the speaker of our video cassette player, I got a pretty a good idea of making one. I knew that she will definitely love having an additional birdhouse, the two birdhouses are already full while the other one is half-filled. I started doing my birdhouse project while she was sleeping and I was half-way done when she woke up. She was very excited to have the birdhouse finished that she even offered to glue the sides even if I know she isn’t capable of doing it. I saw in her face how happy she was when I finished the birdhouse and immediately she asked some coins from me so she can put it in her new birdhouse. When her daddy came home that night, she excitedly showed her the new birdhouse and also asked some coins. Her grandmother who dropped by that night wasn’t spared from being asked to “donate” for her new birdhouse. If my daughter is asked what she will buy or do with the money in her birdhouse, her answer is, “for the bank”. I’m not so sure what she means with “for the bank”. All I’m sure of is that she knows what a bank is and what we do in the bank. It’s my small way of instilling in her the valuable virtue of thriftiness and saving money. Here’s how I made the birdhouse: Materials Needed: Cardboard Box/Milk Box/ Carton Glue or masking tape Scissors Gift Wrapper Procedure: Cut the carton into the following sizes: Front and Back - 2 pcs.3 ¾” x 3” Sides - 2 pcs. 2 ½” x 3” Base - 1 pc. 4” x 4” Cover - 1 pc. 4 ½” x 4 ½” Paste together the front and side, side and back to make a square. Place it over the 4” x 4” and glue it. Before putting the cover or roof, put a 1” hole in the middle. Cover it with a gift wrapper. 6. This is the finished birdhouse
